New Art Gallery, Tattooed Theory, Brings Self-Described “Creepy” Designs to Downtown Hollywood

Tattooed Theory

As an accomplished artist, with 15 years of tattooing experience, Javier Antunez has developed a highly specialized style, which he describes as a little on the creepy side — in direct contrast to his sweet and friendly persona.  But it does fit perfectly with the space he’s rented and painted all black, at 2015 Harrison Street.

“It does sort of stand out,” he admits. “I didn't want to do a typical gallery.”

When the lease on his previous location expired after 10 years in business, Antunez didn’t hesitate -- he immediately thought of Hollywood as the perfect location for a new home for his business and his family.

“My brother and my best friend live here and know many artists in the community,” said Antunez, “and we knew that Downtown Hollywood is up-and-coming as a place for art, artists, and creative people.”

At the new shop, in addition to showing paintings, 3D sculptures and models of his work, Tattooed Theory offers a variety of merchandise including apparel, masks, puzzles and other items.  Tattoo appointments are available pretty much any day and any time, but only by appointment.

Going forward, Antunez plans to hold exhibitions, seminars teaching other artists different tattooing techniques, and art classes, “and be a part of the whole art community in Downtown Hollywood,” he said.
