California-based Patty Macs Restaurant Opens New Location in Downtown Hollywood

Patty Macs, a popular California restaurant known for its signature Jamaican patties and mac and cheese dishes, recently expanded its operations with a new location in Downtown Hollywood.

Married restaurateurs Denise Campbell and Jeff Murat recently moved to Hollywood, and opened their second Patty Macs restaurant Jan. 11 at 2001 Harrison Street. The 64-seat eatery, a family restaurant with a sophisticated modern décor, offers the same unique, eclectic food as their original Patty Macs that opened in Newport Beach in 2014.

"Everything is made fresh and to order," said Campbell, a Jamaica native with a filmmaking background and a passion for food who creates the recipes for Patty Macs' menu. "It's gourmet comfort food, but we also have a healthy side. There’s something for everyone."

The response from restaurant patrons has been extremely favorable.

"People really love the food, and think it's a great addition to the neighborhood," said Campbell. "Our patrons have told us that they think the menu is interesting and cool. They like the variety."

Patty Macs' menu offers several creative takes on mac and cheese ($10 to $25), including bacon jalapeño, carbonara, jerk chicken or shrimp, and lobster. Among the standout sandwiches ($12 to $17) are grilled cod with papaya citrus slaw; chicken club on a pretzel bun; grilled portabella burger; and grilled cheese with tomato basil soup or fries. Flatbreads ($13 to $17) include brie, pear and candied walnuts; and prosciutto, fig and goat cheese.

The menu also features a variety of salads, starters, sides, handcrafted lemonades and teas, and desserts ($4 to $10) such as butterscotch crème brûlée and bread pudding with rum-infused raisins, Jamaican rum sauce and vanilla ice cream.

Patty Macs recently introduced a new $10 weekday lunch menu that offers mac and cheese dishes, soups, salads, sandwiches and of course their signature Jamaican patties. They also host a happy hour that offers wine, draft beer and food specials from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday – Friday and Mac Mondays, when an order of cheesy mac or wings with a Budweiser or Bud Light beer is just $10.

The Saturday and Sunday brunch menu ($10 to $15) includes berry and mascarpone French toast, chocolate banana berry crepe, reggae shrimp omelet, and portabella mushroom eggs Benedict.

While searching for a new location in South Florida, Campbell discovered Downtown Hollywood. As a creative individual and a parent, she said she "really connected" with the historic downtown arts, music and entertainment district, where the couple and their two young children also live.

"I wanted an area that was safe, where I could walk around with my young children. Downtown Hollywood is very walkable, and the outdoor murals are amazing," Campbell said. "I love the community, and I'm very excited to be a part of it."

Patty Macs is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday - Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 754-816-5606 or visit www.pattymacsrestaurant.com/-hollywood.html.
